From long reads to short ones, as Laura joins me to catch up over Clear, a novella from Carys Davies set on a remote Scottish island. I'm a bit captivated by Orkney, mainly because I follow architect Ben Pentreath whose blog posts set the internet alight as he shares the domestic details of his aspirational lifestyle. He and his partner, the gardener Charlie McCormick, recently bought a grand old house on the tiny island of Rousay, and like many other Ben Pentreath fans I've been avidly following his journey. You can read about it in this FT piece (unlike the generous NYT, the FT only lets me gift an article to one non-subscriber, so whoever clicks first will get it), or check the Pentreath and Hall blog (free to all) for the ongoing story. A new post from Ben is reliably a highlight of my week. Anyway, I digress, I just wanted to share that joyful little corner of the internet with you.
I know I'm not alone in enjoying Clear as one of you subscribers recommended it to me a while back …
