Despite loving my beautiful US edition of Sally Rooney's latest novel Intermezzo, I've also noticed in myself a significant reluctance to actually pick it up and start reading. Partly it's my aversion to hype, a characteristic I think I share with Rooney herself who was notably absent in most of the publicity whirl around the launch of this book.
