All the Best Stories are True: The 2024 Baillie Gifford Prize

A couple of weekends in the making, in this Patreon pod I had fun diving into this year's Baillie-Gifford prize (for non-fiction). While I generally have no envy whatsoever for Booker judges I could imagine myself working through a huge stack of non-fiction reads. Until, that is, I experienced this year's shortlist and baulked at reading one of the titles, I wonder if you can guess which one. Perhaps I wouldn't make such a good judge after all. We'll also catch up with Laura's current reads while I admit to the books that have been occupying all of my reading time recently. What started out as an enjoyable light fantasy read became – I can think of no other comparison – War and Peace. I'm now pining because all good things must come to an end (although it's entirely possible I might read them all again). Hope you enjoy it, and hope to see some of you tonight for book club, where I'm looking forward to hearing about your books of the year – perhaps some of them will be non-fiction.
